Calculate composite material porosity using ASTM D2734 standard formula for quality control & engineering testing
Void content (porosity, Vv) is the percentage of void volume in the total volume of composite material. It is a critical quality index for carbon fiber, glass fiber, and aramid composites, directly affecting mechanical properties and structural performance.
Where:
• Vv = Void Content (Porosity) %
• ρt = Theoretical Density (g/cm³)
• ρm = Measured Apparent Density (g/cm³)
• Aerospace grade composites: Void content ≤ 1%
• Industrial structural composites: Void content ≤ 2%
• General non-structural composites: Void content ≤ 5%
